WHO WE ARE:
Digital
Heroes is small hobby shop devoted to non-sports trading cards, comic books
and collectible action figures. We are currently based in Walla
Walla Washington. Although we no longer have our large downtown
storefront with regular business hours, local customers are welcome to
come by our warehouse to pick up
their order. We still occasionally set up at comic, trading card and
science fiction shows here in the pacific northwest and we always make an annual
appearance at RadCon in the Tri-Cities
area each February.
HISTORY: Digital Heroes started as "Show's Only" business based in the Seattle area in 1991. In July of 1993, after much success with the comic shows and with the booming comic market of the time, we opened up a storefront in my home town of Walla Walla. At this time we were very fortunate to meet Richard Garfield the creator of Magic: The Gathering, who was teaching at Whitman College next door to our shop. To make a long story short we got in the the Magic phenomenon from the very beginning. In 1994 when dotcoms were in there infancy, Digital Heroes started experimenting with Magic sales on the Internet. By 1995 we had our own domain and web site. In 1996, mail order and Internet sales exceeded what was being made in the storefront. The storefront had actually lost money during that year. In 1997, as the comic industry faltered and the sales of Magic were no longer what they were, Digital Heroes experienced a huge financial loss. In July of 1998 we closed our downtown storefront to focus more on our mail order and online sales with a move to our warehouse location. In 2000 it became apparent that the website needed some focus and to desperately be updated. In the spring of 2001 our warehouse location was remodeled to allow local customers to come by and pick up products. In July of 2001 our online focus had become solely non-sport trading cards. In June of 2002, the site underwent some fundamental design changes to tie the PayPal shopping cart into a database allowing for a larger number of products to be listed. A new shopping cart that better calculates shipping for multiple items was introduced in January 2005. In May 2006 the website had it's fifth major overall including new code for the shopping cart as well as a separate section featuring an expanded selection of action figures. In February 2007 a separate section for collectible gaming card featuring Magic the Gathering with sets, boxes, and packs went online. Our shopping cart was redesigned in November 2007 to be more compatible with security updates and changes made to most modern web browsers. A forth section for comic books and graphic novels went online October 2008 along with the ability to place comic & graphic novel pre-orders based on Diamond Comic Distributors Previews catalog. PERSONAL INFORMATION: Digital Heroes is solely owned and operated by Jeff Watson, with occasional help from his wife Karen and his mom Linda. Along with his work at Digital Heroes, Jeff takes care of his two boys (Henry born 2000 & Bob born 2002). Karen teaches 4th grade full time for Walla Walla Public Schools.
